So, I have finally joined the blogging community. I know it’s late, but as they say “better late than never”… unless you’re going to a One Direction concert.
The reason I decided to start writing blogs is because I want to share my experiences of filmmaking with young people. Oh, do I have some stories!
As you may already know, I run ‘Filmmaking for Kids‘ and ‘Film Future‘, which are two organisations that run filmmaking courses with young people aged between 7 and 16. I have also recently finished writing 2 books titled ‘Digital Filmmaking For Kids For Dummies‘ and ‘Making YouTube Videos’. I’m also the Creative Director at 7 Stream Media, which is a UK production company. My aim, one day, is to have a social life and maybe have a holiday… I live in hope.
I was asked the other day why I love my job as a filmmaker. My answer was simply “it’s unpredictable, it’s creative, and every day is different.” It’s true – I’ve tried many different jobs and none have been as varied and exciting as the creative industry. People also ask me why I work with young people. Well the answer is less simple, but young people have incredible energy and an eagerness to learn, which I find exciting and thrilling to work with. They are also motivated and positive. I am fed up of being surrounded by negative and lazy adults who drag and knock you down. I’m also constantly amazed by the underestimated creativity in young people – they are buzzing with ideas!
In my next blogs I want to share my experience with working with young people but also want to encourage my readers to discover and develop their ‘creative muscle’. My question to you is ‘what would you like me to write about?’ – Comments please…
Thanks for reading and happy filmmaking!
